I remember as a kid the excitement that would rise up in me as we headed off to the Aussie Pie Shop. Mum would allow us one thing savoury and one thing sweet, which created all kinds of dilemmas and mental torture for a young brat like me. What to have? Do I go for the meat pie, the potato pie, the sausage roll or the ham and salad roll. On balance it was always best to go for a pie, they presented the best bang for your buck I reckoned, all that luscious pastry encasing meat and gravy. And as we do down under, I'd pour lashings of tomato sauce over the top of it, as if Heinz was going out of business tomorrow. As to the something sweet, where do I begin! The vanilla slice was the go-to option but variations included the cream bun, neenish or pineapple tarts and of course, the lamingtons could always get a guernsey, as long as they had plenty of cream. This is what The Aussie Pie Shop is all about. Honest and delicious quality food that doesn't cost an arm or a leg. And of course, since those halcyon days of the 1970s, we've been destroying the planet each day, so we go out of our way to be as environmentally conscious as possible. So, this is the beginning of the beginning for The Aussie Pie Shop. Welcome aboard my friend and let's look forward to the happy days to come.
